Fire in the Bay
We had a fire in the Bay today. These pictures show how important the first few minutes are. In the first couple of photos the fire is just getting going, been smoking for about 10 minutes, then caught and flared up. Don Mayrand and crew from the shipyard arrived about 15-20 minutes in. Their scow pump (without proper fire nozzle) knocked the flames right down in a couple of minutes. At about 25 minutes Vessel Assist arrived with a good stream and put the fire out.
Damage is extensive but the boat did not sink and remains intact. Coast Guard, Nanaimo Harbour Patrol, CG Auxiliary, and local Fire Department all arrived after the fire was out.
