The Oliver Clark II
The Oliver Clark II is now 74 years old and still working the BC coast. She was heavily built at Marpole in Vancouver by George Askew in 1939 for Will Vivian of the Vivian Engine Works. The intention was that she serve as a demonstrator so a monster 8 ton Vivian engine occupied much of her lower deck. Large fuel tanks were also installed for a projected voyage to Australia. Originally named the Leola Vivian in 1942 she came into ownership by the Royal Canadian Navy and served as a tender to H.M.C.S. Burrard. In 1947 she passed to the BC Ministry of Lands and Forests in Victoria and her name became the BC Surveyor. Around 1959 she became the Oliver Clark II, named after a hero of the BC Forest Service.
